Discovery Awards

Global solutions from grassroots

The Discovery Awards originated from Project Discovery in India, a competition collecting grassroots assistive solutions via videos.

With its success in India, scaling globally became essential. EnAble India and Zero Project are collaborating to break international barriers, uniting 1 billion persons with disabilities and stakeholders to highlight the value of these solutions in their lives.

Discovery Awards is a global platform that acknowledges innovative solutions from the grassroots.

The solution-oriented approach, grounded in the belief that “Everyone is an innovator,” can significantly empower people with disabilities. Globally, individuals with disabilities and their support networks consistently develop new solutions to enhance accessibility and foster inclusion.

Impact Story

Rigzin Tamchos from Leh Ladakh is a para-archer. While practicing archery, he realised that the armrest of his wheelchair was getting in the way, and so decided to make a few modifications. As adjusting the height of the seat didn’t solve the issue, Rigzin added a moving feature to the armrest, allowing for adjustments utilising a nut. This modification and a small adaptation at the rear of the wheelchair allowed the armrest to move toward the back without tipping over. This simple but incredibly innovative modification greatly helped Rigzin continue his passion – para-archery.

Winning the Discovery Award elevated Rigzin’s joy, and he continues to experiment with more solutions. He shares, “Last year, I couldn’t attend the Discovery Awards in Vienna due to heavy snowfall, but this year I’ve been invited by EnAble India again, and I’m so happy!”
